Most professional guides have fished a ton of different baits. Their livelihood depends on their versatility. But that also means they have seen it all. So when I saw that Susquehanna River professional guide Joe Raymond of Susquehanna Smallmouth Guides was so excited about a new bait, I knew I had to reach out to share it with Dock Talkers. Here is what Joe has to say about the soon to be out Z-Man TRD CrawZ Finesse.
What Z-Man TRD CrawZ Finesse colors are you using for Susquehanna River smallmouth bass fishing?
I have four different colors I am using on the Susquehanna River. I have Drew’s Craw, The Deal, Canadian Craw and Mud Bug. These baits have great detail. They took the time to have detail on the underside of the baits as well as the pinchers. They are awesome looking baits.
What is the size of the Z-Man TRD CrawZ Finesse?
Size comparison to the original TRD, the new CrawZ is actually smaller. So it is a tiny little finesse bait. It measures out at 2 3/8 inches but they will probably call it a 2 1/2 inch bait.
How are you fishing the Z-Man TRD CrawZ Finesse currently?
As far as fishing this bait, I have been on phase one of using it. I have been using the standard Ned LockZ jig head. Just rigging it up like a standard TRD.
I am fishing it like a tube. So when I am fishing it I believe it is coming across the bottom vertically.
So what is your Phase 2 for fishing the Z-Man TRD CrawZ Finesse?
Phase 2 of this is going to be a new jig head that Z-Man will be releasing. It is kind of like a shovel head style or a sled head style jig head called BulletZ Weedless Jighead. This will give us the ability to fish this bait in heavy cover. It is a weedless style setup.
From what I understand, it is going to come in four different sizes. Basically the same as the TRD weights which includes 1/5, 1/6, 1/10 and 1/15. I don’t have any yet, but that is going to be a game changer because we will be able to throw that bait in heavy cover. We will be able to fish it in place that we haven’t been able to fish an open bait before without getting snagged constantly.
Really excited about it. It is going to be a game changer. It is awesome. And it is going to have a more horizontal look to it when it is coming through the water. It is not going to sit up on end as much because of the under belly weight on the hook.
So it is coming across horizontally and the pinchers are going to stand up. It is just going to be such a realistic bait. I can’t wait to get those jig heads.
When will be the Z-Man TRD CrawZ Finesse release date?
The release date on this from what I have been told is sometime in August. I hope that comes true.
